The obverse displays the bust of Pike, and the reverse depicts Pike's Peak. Designed by C.E. Barber and struck at Philadelphia Mint. Brilliant surfaces prooflike surfaces under deep blue, gray and gold toning and visibly frosty devices. Only 250 proofs are known to have been struck, and it is believed that there are less than 75 surviving specimens. NGC census shows four graded Proof-65 and one Proof-65 Cameo with none finer.

This ounce medal was produced to raise approximately $60,000 in funds needed to ensure the State of Colorado would have an exhibit at the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago, IL. Several different types of this medal were produced, this being the most attractive of them. This is a brilliant white example with typically heavy die polish lines.

1933 Pedley-Ryan Type IV SC$1. HK-825. PCGS graded MS-61. Silver. 27.8 grams. Pedley-Ryan was an investment company in Denver, Colorado. Pedley-Ryan "dollars" were produced to encourage investment and speculation in silver. The company produced several types of these flat, rimless, plain-edge silver disks with stamped incuse design. Only about a 1,000 pieces of all types are believed to have been sold. This is the most common of the incuse design types, but only 500 of this variety were reportedly produced. This piece is conservatively graded.

Almost forgotten now, more than a century later, the purpose of the exposition was "To prove to. world. enormous value of Alaska to United States and. greatness of its entry port, Seattle"; to exhibit ". development, resources, products and advantages" of State of Washington. The expo was situated on almost 200 acres in northeast Seattle, bordering Lakes Union and Washington; grounds now part of University of Washington campus, with attendance from June 1 to Oct. 16, 1909 being 3,750,000; about 2,000,000 of whom paid.
