Capone, Al. Gold pinkie ring monogrammed "AC". Worn by Al Capone and given to gangster Mickey Cohen by Ralph Capone, Al's brother, upon Al's death in 1947. The ring is a size 8. Before becoming the defacto boss of criminal activity in Los Angeles, Mickey Cohen (1913-1976) worked for Al Capone. In 1961, Mickey was convicted of income tax evasion and sentenced to 15 years in federal prison. While he was in prison, Jim Smith, Cohen's right hand man from 1956-1976, visited him and took care of things on the outside. Mickey gave Smith personal items which had belonged to Capone and other gangsters. When Cohen was released from federal prison in January 1972, Smith picked him up and was with him for the rest of his life. After Cohen's death in 1976, Smith took over most of Cohen's possessions, including paintings, clothes, jewelry, and furniture. A sworn affidavit by Jim Smith is included with this ring. Also included are copies of pages from Mickey Cohen's autobiography, Mickey Cohen: In My Own Words, which include information on Jim Smith's relationship to Cohen.

Lot 735
Meteorite Jewelry Stony Meteorite and Moldavite. This lot offers a very rare opportunity to purchase jewelry that was handmade out of genuine stony meteorites and custom designed to represent the ultimate in fine jewelry. To be able to cut up meteorites to make jewelry is a rare luxury, due to the rarity and high value of nearly all meteorites. Fortunately enough meteorites were found in 1999 in Algeria of one large fall (almost 1500 Kg) to allow a small portion to be made available to be used in jewelry. There will not be any more cut into jewelry since as much as 80% of the meteorite is lost in the cutting. The stony meteorite has been assigned the name of North West Africa 869 and has been classified as an L4 or L5 breccia. All stony meteorites contain iron and all are designated with an "H"for high iron content or "L" for low iron content, and "breccia"means that the meteorite is a mixture of several different types of rocks that were mixed together when the two asteroids that created this meteorite collided billions of years ago.

This unusual meteorite necklace is 18 inches long with a 2.5 inch sterling silver extension and is made up of 93 polished irregular shaped NWA 869 meteorite pieces. It has a large 1.4 x .8 inch gem quality piece of Moldavite in a sterling silver bezel. Moldavite is a translucent green glass that formed from a meteorite impact in Germany over 20 million years age that formed the Ries-Nordlingen crater and today is found over 250 miles away in the Czech Republic. Moldavite is considered to be a gem stone and even today is quite often given by a groom to his bride in the Czech Republic. Also, included is a limited edition of only 1,000 large 1.9 inch diameter bronze medal with an actual piece of the NWA 869 meteorite embedded in the obverse plus a certificate of authenticity.
Add $15 for domestic shipping.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.

J.F.K. Assassination/Lee Oswald/Jack Ruby Investigator Archive. In December 1954, Allan Sweatt emulated his older brother Millard (see Bonnie and Clyde lot) by joining the Dallas County Sheriff's Department, but he would earn his own reputation as a legendary Texas lawman. A direct consequence of the J.F.K. assassination - the need to identify and interrogate suspects - fell to Allan Sweatt, who by 1963 had taken his brother Millard's former job as Chief Criminal Deputy of Dallas County, into whose custody Oswald was being transferred when he was shot and killed by local burlesque club owner Jack Ruby.

On November 22, 1963, Allan Sweatt was positioned outside Sheriff's Headquarters, observing the tail end of the President's motorcade, when he heard the first of three gunshots. As the highest ranking lawman in Dealey Plaza, it became Allan Sweatt's responsibility to coordinate the actions of Sheriff Deputies in the immediate wake of the shooting which included arresting an early murder suspect, identifying eyewitnesses, scouring the plaza for ballistics evidence, securing Lee Oswald's alleged shell casings inside the Book Depository, and dispatching officers who would apprehend Oswald at the Texas Theatre.

Possibly the closest personal confidant of Sheriff Bill Decker, it was Allan Sweatt who reported to Secret Service agents that Lee Harvey Oswald was, at the time of Kennedy's assassination, receiving a monthly stipend of two hundred dollars from the F.B.I. - even providing them with Oswald's registration number as an informant.

At the specific request of Sheriff Decker - Allan Sweatt was appointed Jack Ruby's private chaperone during his incarceration at the Dallas County Jail. A nationally respected Polygraph examiner, Allan Sweatt was the department's official witness to Jack Ruby's lie detector exam and is even said to have administered his own 'dry run' polygraph exam to Ruby, the existence of which has never been made public. (Data confirmed by the son of Millard E. Sweatt, an executive within the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.) The purpose of Sweatt's preliminary test was allegedly intended to satisfy Sheriff Decker's own curiosity, but also to settle Ruby's own fear of later "flunking" the lie detector.

Allan Sweatt died in 1975 at the age of 58 and is listed among the "Convenient Deaths" surrounding JFK's murder. At the time of his death, Sweatt was the Chief of Field Operations for the Dallas County Sheriff. Included in this archive are the following:

1 - Commissioner of Law Enforcement official diamond ring. 10k band engraved "Allan Sweatt"
