Lot 461

1797 S-136 R3 VF25. Slightly sharper but there is a chip out of the rim under the second 7 in the date, a fine diagonal hairline scratch under the earlobe, a vertical nick at the curl on the neck, and a dull nick near the dentils off the end of the nose. None of these marks is especially distracting and the overall eye appeal of this cent is excellent. Glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter brown toning on the devices. LDS, Breen state V. The reverse die is blunted, as usual on this variety, and there is a die crack from the rim through the left side of the U in UNITED in addition to the earlier cracks. Comes with a nice provenance. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
Ex C. H. Stearns, Mayflower Auctions 12/1966:333-Thomas Adams.

Realized $1,293
