Lot 460

1797 S-133 R5 Stemless Wreath F12. Sharpness VF30 or slightly better but there are numerous tiny ticks on the obverse, a few small pits in the field before the portrait, and a patch of shallow reddish brown corrosion at ON CEN. Microscopic specks of greenish verdigris are sprinkled through the reddish patch, but you need a good glass to find them. Mostly glossy light steel brown and olive with traces of reddish brown in protected areas. Looks better than it might sound. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with a die crack from the rim to the neck near the bust. Graded VF30 net F12 and tied for CC#7 in the Noyes census. Bland says VF30 net F12 as well and tied for CC#6 in his census. An important cent in spite of the imperfections, and it comes with an excellent provenance. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
