Lot 403

1795 C-6b R6- No Pole, Plain Edge PCGS graded VF25. Glossy steel brown and chocolate with wisps of lighter sea-green overtones on the reverse. No corrosion, verdigris, or notable marks. The best identifying feature is a curved planchet clip that affects the dentils under 179 and the opposing ones over TES (as struck). EDS, Manley state 1.0, before any swelling in the field right of the Y in LIBERTY. The date is often weakly struck on these thick planchet strikes of the variety, but it is complete and clear on this example. The weight is not shown on the PCGS label, but the planchet is clearly thicker than those found on the normal thin planchet strikes. These thick planchets were cut from spoiled large cents, and occasionally you can see large cent undertype on the half cents (but not on this one). A very nice example of this rare variant. Our grade is F15 which would place it solidly in the middle of the condition census for the variety. The attribution as C-6b (the Thick Planchet version) is noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $8,000 - UP

Realized $8,813
