Lot 296

1814 S-295 R1 Plain 4 PCGS graded AU50. Frosty chocolate brown with lighter steel brown toning in protected areas. Smooth and quite attractive with only trivial marks and very light wear on the highest points of the devices. A minor planchet flake at the lower left of the second 1 in the date (as struck) is a good identifying mark. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state III, with die clashmarks on both sides. The clashmarks before the face are especially prominent and give the appearance of a double profile. Our grade is EF40+. The attribution and Boka-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 16 finer for the variety. PCGS #36517. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
Ex Chris McCawley 1990-Jon A. Boka, Heritage 9/2011:3030-Gene Heard Collection (includes the Boka collection envelope and lot ticket).
