Lot 286

1809 S-280 R2 PCGS graded XF45. The obverse is frosty medium brown and light chocolate with traces of lustrous tan in protected areas. The reverse is a darker shade of chocolate brown and steel with lighter toning at the tops of the legend outside the wreath caused by light contact or possibly recoloring that was limited to the reverse. The notable marks are a small diagonal nick between the date and star 13 and a shallow planchet flake between star 7 and the brow lock. MDS, Breen state VI early. There are die cracks at TE in STATES down into the top of the wreath with a very faint extension down to the left top of the E in ONE. The repunching on the 9 remains clear. Graded AU50 net EF45 and tied for CC#14 in the Noyes census, his photo #38988. Our grade is EF40 net VF35. The attribution and Boka-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 8 finer for the variety. PCGS #36466. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
