Lot 233

1793 S-3 R3- Chain AMERICA PCGS graded F15. Choice glossy medium chocolate brown with traces of lighter brown in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and this piece offers outstanding eye appeal. There are no traces of corrosion or verdigris, and the only notable marks are three old scratches below OF and a dull pinprick mark at the right top of the C in AMERICA. These marks are blended perfectly into the attractive toning and they do not catch your eye. The date and legends are complete and clear. LDS, Breen state III, with obvious die clashmarks below the truncation. A very nice mid-grade example of our 1793 Chain Cent. Our grade is VG10+, but the reverse would grade a solid F12 or better (the reverse of Chain Cents is nearly always sharper than the obverse thanks to a higher protective rim on that side.) The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2 graded Fine; 8 finer for the variety. PCGS #35438. Estimate Value $15,000 - UP
Ex Chris McCawley circa 2011-Gene Heard Collection.
