Roman Judaea, 1st-2nd Century AD., Flask with Bell-shaped Body. This very substantial bottle was blown from light green glass. Its mouth has a thick, rolled and everted rim and a narrow, slightly flaring neck that is attached to the rounded, flaring cone-shaped lower body. The base is very deeply concave. With thin, transparent iridescence, featuring appealing passages of bright green, magenta, and copper. Well proportioned and symmetrical. Intact and perfect. Said to have been found at Pergamon. Height: 6 1/8". Estimate Value $200 - 300
Ex Goldberg's Coin, Collectibles, and Memorabilia Auction of June 2-5, 2002, lot 4710; Ex June 1986, Superior Galleries Sale of the bankrupt assets of the International Diamond Corporation. The ancient Roman glass was acquired thru Rafi Brown in the early 1980's.
