Lot 193

1839 N-11 R1 Booby Head PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Choice lustrous bluish steel and light chocolate brown with 15% of the mint color remaining visible, mostly on the reverse. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is outstanding. No spots or stains, just a few contact marks. The only notable ones are a collection of light nicks or short scuffs in the field midway between stars 11 & 12. EDS but not quite the earliest. Microscopic radial die flowlines are starting to show in the field near the dentil tips on both sides but the fine die lines behind ONE CENT are still clear. Graded MS63 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #34539. Bland says MS63 but tied for CC#4 honors in his census. Our grade is MS63. Previously removed from a PCGS slab graded MS64RB (PCGS label #1752.64/6396811). Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 1 finer in 67 for the variety. PCGS #37246. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
