Lot 8

1794 S-29 R2 Head of 1794 PCGS graded MS63 Brown, CAC Approved. Choice frosty medium brown with steel brown toning on the highpoints and hints of very faded mint red in a few protected areas on the reverse. The only contact marks are a barely visible rim bruise at the B in LIBERTY, a tiny rim nick at TY, and a short, very faint hairline in the field off the chin. A beautiful frosty cent with a hint of light friction on the highest points of the devices. Sharply struck everywhere except at NIT, which displays some tiny planchet chips that didn't completely strike out due to the usual weak impression at that spot. EDS, Breen state I, without the die crack through the R in AMERICA. Plated in the important Elder-Gilbert catalog (Thomas L. Elder 10/12/1910:24). Listed by Noyes as AU55 and tied for CC#3, his photo #21757. Bland says AU50 and tied for CC#6. Our grade is AU55. A beautiful cent with choice eye appeal and an outstanding provenance. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 2 finer, 1 in 64, 1 in 65+ for the variety. Estimate Value $25,000 - UP
