Lot 650

1783 Maryland Chalmers Shilling with Long Worm Breen-1012 PCGS graded VF35. Attractive glossy dark gunmetal blue and steel with lighter silvery gray toning on the devices. The surfaces are smooth and this piece offers excellent eye appeal. The only notable mark is a diagonal hairline scratch under the central clasped-hands device on the reverse. The strike is relatively soft under NG in SHILLING and the opposing area under LM in CHALMERS, but everything else is nicely impressed. Struck slightly off center to the right, but still centered better than the Breen plate coin for the variety. The "Long Worm" feature is clear (which is often not the case), and it is noted on the PCGS label. A very nice example of this historic private Colonial issue. Listed on page 53 in the "Redbook." Estimate Value $4,000 - UP

Realized $6,463
