1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Small Planchet Noe-25 R5 PCGS graded VF25. A Small Planchet type. Glossy dark gunmetal gray with lighter silvery steel toning on the highpoints. Smooth and quite nice except for a slightly thin vertical streak down the center of the planchet (the planchet was a bit thinner along that line). As a result the devices are softly struck along the streak but properly impressed everywhere else. The middle two digits of the date and parts of the Pine Tree are affected. Otherwise this piece is free of defects and offers excellent eye appeal. Struck slightly off center to K-9 leaving the tops of a couple letters tight to the edge of the planchet.
