1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Large Planchet Noe-8 R4 PCGS graded XF45. A Large Planchet type with a monogrammed "NE" in NEW. Glossy gunmetal gray with lighter silvery gray toning on the devices. Smooth and essentially flawless except for a mint-made planchet fissure at the V in MASATHVSETS and the opposing GL in ENGLAND plus another smaller fissure at the rim over the N in IN. The Pine Tree, date, and denomination are all strong and the legends are mostly clear although parts are slightly off the planchet. The monogrammed or ligatured NE in NEW is bold. The obverse is misaligned slightly to the top while the reverse is centered on the planchet. LDS with a larger cud break at GL in ENGLAND that extends slightly inside the beads below those letters. Listed on page 41 of the "Redbook." Weight shown as 70.68 grains on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
