Lot 60

1808 S-278 R3 PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. Glossy medium steel brown and light chocolate with a streak of slightly darker toning from star 7 down to the 0 in the date. Traces of frosty lighter steel brown and golden tan toning show in protected areas, particularly on the obverse. Mint luster covers the fields and protected areas on both sides and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The best identifying marks are a horizontal nick tucked tightly under the bust tip and a tiny diagonal nick on the nostril. Very late die state, Breen state VII. The dies are heavily worn and a strong rim cud shows at stars 5 & 6. Struck slightly off center to K-3 (which allowed the rim cud to show so strongly). Our grade is AU50. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 6 finer, 1 in 58, 1 in 62, 3 in 63, 1 in 64 for the variety. Estimate Value $6,000 - UP
