Lot 58

1807 S-276 R1 Large Fraction PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Upset Reverse. The obverse is frosty steel brown and chocolate with delicate overtones of light bluish steel; the reverse is a lighter shade of frosty medium brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Subtle puffs of slightly darker chocolate brown toning show at the D in UNITED and E in ONE. Satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only contact marks, and they are barely visible, are a light vertical nick in the center of the neck, a horizontal nick high on the shoulder near the hair, and a trio of tiny ticks in the field over the upper end of the hair ribbon. A very attractive cent with mint state eye appeal even though there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. M-LDS, Breen state III. The reverse is upset head-to-head rather than the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Our grade is AU55. Noyes says AU55 net AU50 and tied for CC#8, his photo #59205. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer, 3 in 63, 1 in 65 for the variety. Estimate Value $10,000 - UP
