Lot 54

1807 S-271 R1 "Comet Obverse" PCGS graded AU58+, CAC Approved. Variety with a Small Fraction. Very attractive frosty mix of light and medium chocolate brown tones with traces of lighter steel brown in a few of the protected areas. Satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas. The only notable marks, and you need a strong glass to see them, are a string of microscopic pinpricks slanting across the 1 in the date and a tiny pinprick under the left side of the O in OF. This cent offers mint state eye appeal in spite of very light friction on the highest points of the devices. MDS, Breen state VI. The "Comet" flaw in the field behind the head is clear. A choice example of this very popular "Redbook" variety, and the strong "Comet" die flaw is a big plus. Our grade is AU50 Choice. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 2 finer, 1 in 63, 1 in 64 for the variety. Estimate Value $20,000 - UP
Ex Heritage 2/2012:3074.

Realized $23,500
