Lot 39

1801 S-223 R1 Error Fraction 1/000 PCGS graded AU53. Glossy chocolate brown and dark steel. The surfaces are smooth except for a small area of microscopic roughness just right of the D in UNITED where there is a tiny pit. A faint nearly horizontal hairline in the field from the middle of the nose and a dull pinprick in the field before the brow are good identifying marks. M-LDS, Breen state V, with cud breaks that involve the upper parts of the R & T in LIBERTY and clashmarks on both sides. The terminal cud at the bust tip has not formed. A nice example of the 1/000 Error Fraction type. Our grade is EF40. Noyes says EF45 net EF40 and tied for CC#6, his photo #60419. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer, 1 in 55, 1 in 60, 1 in 63 for the variety. Estimate Value $4,500 - UP
Ex Doug Bird 9/2005.
