Lot 284

1794 S-43 R2 F15. Sharpness VF25, perhaps slightly better on the obverse, but there are a half dozen very fine scratches in the field before the portrait, and they have been lightly smoothed to minimize their appearance. The devices are smooth but microscopic granularity covers the fields and protected areas. Medium to dark chocolate brown. The obverse is glossy but the reverse is less reflective. LDS, Breen state V. All the die cracks described by Breen are present and the crack through the U in UNITED is bold. The right top of that U is closer to the rim due to the small die shift caused by the strong crack. A neat die state. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
Ex Henry J. Berube-Philip Van Cleave, Kagin's 1/30/1986:5047-Roger S. Cohen, Jr., 12/8/1986-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth, Heritage 9/2013:4573-Chuck Heck Collection (includes the Cohen and Ellsworth collection envelopes and the Heritage lot ticket).

Realized $940
