1798 S-157 R2 Small 8, Style I Hair PCGS graded AU55. Attractive glossy light to medium brown with frosty light steel brown and tan in protected areas and darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and the eye appeal is excellent. The notable marks are a diagonal nick in the hair at the shoulder, a couple faint hairlines above and below the ear, a shallow low spot (caused by grease on the die) from the eye to the back of the head under the L, and another low spot inside the top of the wreath. E-MDS, Breen state II, with a short spur from the middle of the neck and traces of microscopic die rust on both sides (tiny lumps on the coin). Our grade is AU50+ sharpness net EF45+. Noyes says EF45 net EF40 and tied for CC#8, his photo #60420. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer, 2 in 58, 1 in 63, 1 in 64 for the variety. Estimate Value $17,500 - UP
