1798 S-155 R3 Reverse of 1795 PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. Variety with Small 8, Style I Hair, and single leaves at the top of the wreath. Glossy steel brown and chocolate with frosty tan covering the protected areas on both sides. A choice example showing only a few trivial marks, including a small nick hidden in the hair left of the throat, another faint one in the center of the neck, and a short hairline scratch low on the neck. M-LDS, Breen state IV late, with die cracks on both sides. Called VF35 and tied for CC#7 among the confirmed examples in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF35 and tied for CC#7, his photo #34298. Our grade is VF35+ Choice. A premium example of this popular "Redbook" variety, and it comes with an impressive provenance. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 2 finer, 1 in 62, 1 in 65 for the variety (the MS65 brought $114,562.50 in our 1/31/2016 sale of the Tom Reynolds Collection). Estimate Value $11,000 - UP
