Lot 268

1794 S-34 R5+ VG7. Slightly sharper, especially on the obverse, but the reverse is minutely rough and there are nearly a dozen shallow pits on that side, some of which contain traces of greenish verdigris. The only notable contact marks are a dozen mostly horizontal scratches through the date, but the date is still complete and easily readable. Cleaned and retoning a slightly glossy light reddish brown and chocolate blending to darker steel and olive brown in protected areas. M-LDS, Breen state III. The cud break over LI is clear and a die crack extends from the left end of the cud through the left top of the L and top of the cap to the dentils left of the cap. Far from perfect but still an acceptable example of this tough die variety, and it may offer better eye appeal if properly retoned. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
