Lot 254

1794 S-26 R2 VG10+. Sharpness VF20 but there is extremely fine roughness in the fields and protected areas while the highpoints are smooth. No verdigris and the only notable contact marks are an obvious rim dent over TE in STATES and a lighter rim bruise at the I in UNITED. In addition there are traces of light golden glue or some similar substance in the center of the reverse and along the rim under the wreath. Recolored frosty medium steel brown and light chocolate. The date is clear and the legends are strong. Extremely rare EDS, Breen state I. The reverse is uncracked and there are no die clashmarks. Prior to 2007 the only known uncracked example was the Clapp coin in the ANS Collection, and there are no others listed in the Noyes census. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the serious collector of 1794 die states. Estimate Value $500 - UP
Ex William Horan (eBay) 6/2007-Chuck Heck Collection.
