Lot 244

1794 S-20b R5 Head of 1793, Edge of 1794 VG8. Sharpness VF25 but there is pitting on the upper and lower parts of the obverse while most of that side is smooth. Minor roughness covers the reverse. No noticeable verdigris or contact marks. Both sides were very lightly burnished and are nicely retoned a mostly glossy dark chocolate brown with lighter brown and chocolate toning on the obverse highpoints. The date is bold and the legends are clear except for the fraction, which is mostly effaced by roughness. The edge lettering is strong. LDS, Breen state II, with a subtle diagonal bulge across the obverse from the rim left of the cap to the rim off the end of the chin. Graded F15 net VG7 in the Noyes census, his photo #39319. Far from perfect but still a nicely detailed example of this tough Head of 1793 variety. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
