Lot 242

1794 S-19a R5+ Head and Edge of 1793 VG8. A couple points sharper but covered with uniform microscopic granularity under slightly glossy medium chocolate and olive brown toning. The highpoints are a lighter shade of steel brown. No verdigris, and the only notable mark is a dull rim nick or small rim dent at R in AMERICA. MDS, Breen state I, with a bulge in the field under the cap but without the second bulge down from the left edge of the cap. The date and legends are complete and easily readable but portions are weak, especially the bottom edge of the date. The edge lettering is strong and the downturned leaf following DOLLAR is bold. A nice example of this rare variety. Graded VG8 and tied for CC#10 in the Del Bland census. Noyes says VG10 net VG8 and tied for CC#7, his photo #33434. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
