Lot 216

1803 S-256 R3 PCGS graded MS63+, CAC Approved. Attractive frosty light brown and tan with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints and traces of mint red on the reverse. Satiny mint luster covers all but the highest points of the devices and the eye appeal is excellent. There is a small spot of darker toning near the dentils before the chin and a few tiny contact marks visible under magnification. The notable ones are a tiny pinprick left of the base of the L in LIBERTY, a few tiny ticks hidden in the hair left of the curl on the neck, and a collection of microscopic hairlines near the berry under C in CENT. MDS, Breen state IV, with die cracks on both sides but no cud break over STA. This cent is plated to illustrate the variety in the 1991 Noyes reference. Graded MS62 and CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #20924. Bland says MS63 and CC#1. Our grade is MS62+. The attribution and the Naftzger-Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 2; none finer at PCGS for the variety. Estimate Value $10,000 - UP
Ex Abner Kreisberg 8/1958-R. E. Naftzger Jr., 2/23/1992-Eric Streiner-Bill Noyes 4/2005 (includes the Kreisberg envelope that became the Naftzger collection envelope).
