Lot 195

1800 S-208 R3 PCGS graded VF35. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with traces of lighter brown and chocolate on both sides. Smooth and attractive with light, even wear and only trivial marks. The best identifying mark is a tiny planchet flake in the field just off the end of the chin. MDS, Breen state II late. A strong cud break at TY extends to the rim before the eye but the section of cud over TY shows some dentil clashmarks and is incomplete. In addition there is a narrow rim cud opposite the chin. Breen says this additional narrow rim cud occurs after the cud over TY becomes complete (his state IV), but his sequence is incorrect. His state IV cud occurs prior to his state III, not after. Graded VF20 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #36322. Bland has not seen it. Our grade is VF25. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 1; 3 finer at PCGS for the variety, 1 in 40, 2 in 45. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
