Lot 158

1797 S-141 R4 PCGS graded XF40. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. No roughness or verdigris, only light contact marks. A diagonal nick on the throat and a small pinprick over the left top of the N in CENT can help identify this cent. M-LDS, Breen state III, with a dull vertical die crack from the dentils up through the left ribbon end and stem into the wreath. The crack and resulting die failure in that area caused weakness on the denominator and U with similar weakness at the opposing LIBE in LIBERTY. Otherwise the strike is nice. Our grade is VF30 sharpness net VF25. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 1; 4 finer at PCGS for the variety. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
Ex Heritage 1/2001:8614 (lot ticket included).

Realized $2,585
