1797 S-131 R2+ Stemless Wreath PCGS graded AU53, CAC Approved. Glossy chocolate brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints and frosty lighter brown toning in protected areas, especially on the obverse. Traces of reddish brown toning show around LI and RTY in LIBERTY. The surfaces are smooth but there are two small patches of shallow carbon or dark crud at the top of the hair ribbon. Otherwise only minor contact marks, including a tiny scratch that connects the bases of the N in ONE. Nicely struck M-LDS Breen state IV, showing two dull vertical die cracks in the field before the portrait and a tiny die chip that hangs down from the nose. The date and legends are all bold. Our grade is EF40 sharpness net VF35+. A nice example of the popular Stemless Wreath type. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label.
