1897. NGC graded Proof 68 Ultra Cameo. Fully untoned and boldly struck with all the proud definition of the die chiseled into the planchet by the force of the strike. A coin with great eye appeal, rich color and fantastic surfaces. The Proof gold coins from the 1890s were masterfully made, but seldom survive in such pristine condition. Not only do these coins offer stunning contrast (when they were some of the initial coins struck from the freshest polished dies) but also the quality of the planchets and color are unsurpassed. This example offers not only the highest degree of contrast with the Ultra Cameo designation, but also has magnificent surfaces that are free from handling issues.
