Lot 112

1838 N-6 R1 PCGS graded MS66 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous mint red fading to bluish steel brown and olive with about a third of the planchet showing mellowed mint color. Looks flawless but a close inspection reveals a dull, inconspicuous mark on the rim over star 6. Otherwise this cent is a gem and the eye appeal remains outstanding. EDS. The spike from the leaf tip under the R in AMERICA is long and sharp. In addition there are "phantom" dentils extending onto the rim at stars 10-13 and from CA to under the wreath ribbon on the reverse, a characteristic of the early strikes. Our grade is MS63+, close to MS64. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; tied for finest RB graded at both services. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
Ex Doug Bird 9/2004.
