Lot 110

1837 N-6 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters PCGS graded MS66 Brown. Beautiful lustrous bluish steel and light olive with at least 20% of the planchet showing faded mint red, mostly on the reverse. Had to be close to getting an "RB" designation from PCGS. The satiny mint frost is unbroken and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. Just a few trivial marks from flawless. A light nick or planchet flake on the rim at star 6 and a speck of carbon at the dentils right of star 13 are good identifying marks. MDS. Lapping has removed the tiny lumps around the outside berry under TE in UNITED, but a few remain tucked tightly around the berry left of the bottom of the C in CENT. A wonderful cent that comes with an excellent provenance. Our grade is MS63+, close to MS64. Noyes says MS63 and tied for CC#1, his photo #36383. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the finest graded of the variety. Estimate Value $2,500 - UP
