Sicily, Syracuse. Queen Philistis, wife of Hieron II, 274-216 BC. Silver 16 Litr. Struck ca. 216-215 BC. Veiled and diademed bust of Philistis left, small ear of grain behind. Reverse: Nike drives fast quadriga right, lunar cresent above horses, ear of grain at goundline; queen's name and title above and below. SNG ANS 882 (same dies). A delightful and lustrous example, free from the porosity that seems to accompany most of these. Lovely iridescent toning adds to its appeal. Superb Extremely Fine. Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,500
