1916 Liberty Standing 25C PCGS MS65 FH. PCGS graded MS-65 Full Head. Popular key date and very frosty with abundant luster throughout. The strike is unusually sharp for this first year of issue, and colectors have always sought out these Full Head examples when they are available. there is a hint of gold tone on both side of this elegant gem. The surfaces are exceptionally clean and attractive, and hours of enjoyable time will be spent by the future owner of MacNeil's fantastic design.
These new Standing Liberty quarters were designed and approved in 1916, but production wasn't expected until 1917. However, on the 25th year of Barber coin production, the first allowable year for a change as required, the Mint went forward and started striking 1916 Standing Librety quarters. However, these were initiated until the final two weeks in December. Only 52,000 pieces were struck before production began on 1917 quarters. Both the 1916 and initial 1917 quarters were released at the same time in large batches. Few noticed the 1916 issue, and little fanfare came forth, so saving any of the 1916 quarters was strickly a random event. Of course, as soon as they beautiful coins were released the nakedness of Liberty's breast found great offense in the ever puritanical Amercian population, and demand for a more modest design rang out. Soon Librety was properly covered over in a chain mail frock, and no longer exposing herself to the narrow minded. Pop 75; 26 finer (PCGS # 5705) Estimated Value $24,000 - 25,000
