(1879) Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Medal. Julian PR-15, Bronze 76 mm. In an oversize special NGC holder graded MS-63 BN. Lovely reddish-brown prooflike surfaces.
As there were no presidential medals made for Grant in the early and mid 1870's, William Barber suggested that this be rectified. Photographs were obtained of Grant as president and supplied to William and Charles Barber for their use. The dies were completed early in 1879 and first examples were sold to the public on March 14, 1879. Estimated Value $200-UP
