1863 Stonewall Jackson Memorial Medal. White metal (tin), 50 mm. A very popular medal by Armand Caque commemorating the life of this famous Confederate general during the Civil War. Obverse depicting a large portrait of Jackson facing left, with inscription "LIEUT. GENERAL T. J. JACKSON, STONEWALL/BORN 1821 (actually 1824), DIED 1863". The reverse shows the major battles Jackson participated on the ribbon that goes around the wreath, with multi-line inscription in the middle. This famous medal was struck in Paris before the end of the Civil War, funded by Confederate subscriptions. Most known examples were found in a hoard in Savannah in 1894, they were later dispersed to be sold for the benefit of disabled Confederate veterans. The medal will grade Good VF to Extremely Fine, some scratches. Estimated Value $300 - 350
