Lot 51

1804 C-13 R1 Plain 4 without Stems VG7. Glossy medium steel brown and chocolate blending to darker chocolate brown in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and attractive for the grade, a nick near the rim behind the head being the best identifying mark. This piece was struck twice. One strike was centered on the planchet but the piece failed to eject before being struck a second time. The second strike was rotated 30 degrees CW and slightly off center to K-5. The second strike was against the obverse die on that side leaving obvious "naked-eye" evidence of the rotated strike on the portrait. The reverse was struck against a new blank planchet on the second impression thereby creating an incuse brockage of the reverse on that planchet and causing characteristic swelling or unevenness on this piece. A neat "double error." Estimated Value $200-UP
