Ostrogoths in Italy, Athalaric, c. 526-534. Gold Solidus (4.42 g) minted in the. Minted in the name of Justinian I at Rome. Helmeted and cuirassed bust three-quarter facing, holding spear and shield. Reverse: Victory standing left, holding long cross; in left field, star. Cf. MEC 1, 122. Rare. Extremely Fine.
This specimen is stylistically closer to the Roman original or modelo than the other variants here offered. Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000
