Lot 864

1853 N-3 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Frosty medium brown and light olive with traces of faded mint color remaining on both sides. No spots or stains. The only notable marks are a small, dull rim nick under the 3 in the date and a microscopic planchet flake between star 3 and the dentils. MDS, die state b early. The repunching over the left base of the 1 is faint and the lump under the 5 is dull but clearly visible. Die clashmarks show on both sides. Our grade is MS60+, tied for CC#15 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; none finer at PCGS.
