Lot 845

1851 N-17 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous bluish steel and light olive brown. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is outstanding. The only marks are a spot of reddish brown toning on the left edge of star 13, a tick on the left end of the eyebrow, and a small tick on the lower left part of the O in ONE. LDS, die state c, with two narrow rim cud breaks at stars 1 & 2 (which are difficult to view in the slab because the slab prong gets in the way). Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63, CC#5 in the Grellman census but second finest of those known with the two rim cuds. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 65.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex Doug Bird 10/2000-Evan Kopald-Nick Gampietro, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/31/2010:687.
