Lot 816

1848 N-25 R4 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Choice lustrous medium olive and bluish steel. Satiny mint frost covers this cent, even the highpoints of the devices, and the eye appeal is outstanding. No spots or stains, only a few trivial marks. The notable marks are a tiny tick on the rim at star 2, another on the rim at star 11, and a microscopic pinpricks below the end of the wreath stem. These marks can help identify the coin but they are invisible to the unaided eye. LDS, die state c. Fine die rust shows at the dentil tips around the obverse and crumbling shows on much of the reverse, but the final die line that connects the tops of the T & E in STATES is not present. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#1 honors in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 64+.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
