Lot 680

1828 N-1 R1. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. A choice mint state cent but some shallow corrosion at the dentils over OF-A was expertly removed, and that area was retoned glossy medium chocolate brown. The remainder of the cent is choice lustrous light steel brown and chocolate with underlying very faded mint red showing in protected areas on the obverse. The eye appeal of this cent is outstanding, and the PCGS grade attestes to that fact. Sharply struck MDS with a trace of fusing between some of the dentils at stars 3 & 4. The diagonal die line following the second S in STATES is dull but still visible. A decent example of a variety that is represented by only 2 or 3 mint state examples (depending on the census you use). Graded MS60 net AU55 in the Bland census. Our Grade is net AU58. Comes with a very nice provenance. Pop 2; none finer at PCGS for the variety (PCGS # 36874) .
Estimated Value $800-UP.
