Lot 377

1795 C-6b R5+ Thick Planchet G6. A couple points sharper but there are several very light rim bruises around both sides. A rim bruise before the neck and bust has been very lightly smoothed to minimize its impact. Similar smoothing was done to a small rim bruise over CA in AMERICA. Otherwise the planchet is quite decent with a minimum of marks or other defects. Mostly glossy reddish chocolate brown and steel, possibly lightly cleaned and retoned. The date is complete and easily readable but not strong, which is typical for these thick planchet strikes. The legends are clear except for some weakness on HALF CENT. Weight 115.1 grains most likely on a planchet cut from a spoiled large cent. Manley lists a weight range for the thick planchet versions between 100 and 124 grains (versus the thin planchet standard of 84.0 grains), so this one is on the heavier end of that scale. A decent example of this tough variety.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Realized $1,998
