Lot 365

1794 C-3a R5 Liberty Cap facing right G5. Small Edge Letters. Misaligned Obverse Die. Sharpness F15 but lightly corroded on all but the highpoints, which are smooth. There are minute traces of reddish scale in some of the protected areas but no verdigris and only a few trivial contact marks. A small rim nick over the second T in STATES is a good identifying mark. The date is weak but readable with some effort while the legends are relatively strong everywhere except along the left edge of the reverse where those details did not strike up. Glossy dark olive with lighter brown and chocolate toning on the highpoints. Struck with the obverse misaligned to K-8 (which caused weakness on the date). Weight 98.8 grains.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
