Sicily, Syracuse. Second Democracy. Silver Tetradrachm (17.08 g), 466-405 BC. Ca. 440-430 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with wreath; in exergue, ketos right. Reverse: ΣYRAKOΣION, head of Arethusa right, hair bound with thick band; around, four dolphins clockwise. Cf. Boehringer series XVIia, 586 (V-/R397; obv. die not recorded); SNG ANS 191-2 (same rev. die). Rare. Lightly toned. Very Fine.
