Lot 2012

1880 Pattern Half Eagle. Copper, Reeded Edge. Judd-1663. Pollock-1863 Rarity 8. PCGS graded Proof 65 Brown PQ. CAC Approved. Lovely brown colors throughout. There are believed to be only three examples of this pattern issue, which of course is a pattern or trial piece because a copper planchet was used for what should be a $5 gold piece, and struck with the regular issue gold dies. Of the three known, one resides in the Connecticut State Library and the other resides in the Simpson Collection. Hence, this is othe only likely available coin anytime soon if you desire to own a J-1663 pattern! Don't miss out. Pop 1; none finer at PCGS. The only example graded at PCGS (PCGS # 62048) .
Estimated Value $15,000-UP.
