Lot 2011

1875 Pattern Twenty Cents. Copper, plain edge. Judd-1400, Pollock-1543, Rarity 7. PCGS graded Proof 63 Brown. PQ. Nice even brown toning that is deep and free of spots. This pattern style is known as the "Liberty by the Seashore" for the ocean scene in the background complete with a ship steaming along. Notice the artistic blunder on the sailing ship as the smoke from the boilers is blowing one direction while the billowy sails are going the other direction--the winds must have been really wrapped around and swirling that day! These rare patterns have always been extremely popular with collectors, not only for the elegant design, but for this blunder. There are about a dozen known of this variety in Copper, and this Choice example will certainly please any specialist who is seeking an example. Housed in a First Generation Holder. Pop 1; 3 finer, 1 in 64, 1 in 65, 1 in 66+. (PCGS # 61707) .
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

Realized $5,875
