Lot 2008

1868 Pattern Ten Cents. Nickel, plain edge. Judd-647, Pollock-720, Low Rarity 6. PCGS graded Proof 66. CAC Approved. A very choice example for this interesting pattern. The strike is needle sharp throughout, with all of Liberty's curls fully formed along with the star centers. The reverse too is bold and crisp, and free of specks or spots that so often mar these early Pattern coin. The obverse design is of the Large Cent, which was last struck in 1857, and here the design appears again, not on a cent, but on a ten cent coin made of nickel. The reverse was similar to that on the original Large Cent of 1857, but the wreath is open and the denomation is prominently noted. These 1868 Pattern pieces have always been quite popular with collectors from many different series. Pop 2; 3 finer in 67. (PCGS # 60865) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.
