Lot 2007

1863 Pattern Eagle. Gilt copper, reeded edge. Judd-350, Pollock-422, Rarity 6. PCGS graded Proof 62. CAC Approved. Well struck. This is the normal dies of the 1863 gold eagle save for the addition of the experimental Motto on a raised ribbon on the reverse. The Motto states GOD OUR TRUST, which was one of the proposals during this period. Eventually the Motto was changed to IN GOD WE TRUST and formally adopted on all coinage large enough to support it starting in 1866. This is an important step in that direction! A rarely seen or offered pattern that is a true specialist's coin. Pop 1; none finer at PCGS. The only example graded at PCGS for the variety.
Estimated Value $6,000 - 7,000.

Realized $15,863
