Lot 344

1798 S-166 R1 Large 8, Style II Hair EF40. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. Mint frost shows in the protected areas and the eye appeal is excellent. However the strike is obviously uneven (which is often seen on this die variety) with significant weakness on the lower half of the 98 and most of the bust and the opposing area at OF-AM. This is probably due to the unintended 35 degree CCW die rotation rather than the normal head-to-foot die orientation. LDS, Breen state VI. The die crack on the lower left part of the reverse is bold and there are clearly defined rim cud breaks at STA in STATES. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
